temperatures across the country. we have temperatures that are well below zero across portions of the rockies and also into the plains. current temperatures are frigid. when you factor in the wind it feels a lot colder than what the thermometer reads. the cold air has arrived into the northeast. we are looking at temperatures in new york city as the ball drops and we head into tonight. as far as precipitation goes we have concerns. it is across parts of the rockies and also into the plains. parts of southwest texas could be looking at areas of freezing rain mixing in with sleet and also snow. we have a number of advisories

with the storm system. not looking at any precipitation. temperatures will be dropping into the upper 20's. very chilly right now as well in new york city cold temperatures bundle up as you go outdoors. relatively mild season it hasn't been too bad in terms of winter. upper 20's close to midnight it will be cooler than that. >> you are warming it up for everyone. >> it will be a lot of body heat down there. >> 57 percent of voters said it was a good year for their family with over 30 percent calling 2014 bad. we want to know what do you want

every where. police were attempting to arrest the man who posted on youtube terroristic threats for police fbi and other agents. watch this. >> no way in hell i am going back to prison. no (bleep) way. to the police, fbi cia i am not going any more. >> that's a threat he posted on-line. police attempted to arrest him tuesday in a bank parking lot. they ordered him out of the car but then he began backing his car into the suv of the police chief and then tried to run over other officers. police responded with force. >> the officers fired and fatally struck him. there were several officers around. i don't know the location of several officers all of the officers are being interviewed by district attorney's office.

>> the family claims he was mentally ill. police add he is no stranger to law enforcement agencies. he has a criminal record that dates back nearly a decade. >> i can tell you that in 2005 he was arrested for recklessly endangering another person also imprisonment terroristic threats. >> a deadly confrontation. no officers were injured in this case. this year alone there has been a 56 percent increase of officers killed by firearms including 50 ambush assaults. 50 have been killed this year. it doesn't stop there. in massachusetts police officers kicked punched and choked while in the line of duty. two group of cops attacked by teenagers teenagers. they were serving a warrant when they attacked him in a stairwell. at least 6 other teens.umped in. they used pepper spray to fight

them off before other help arrived. all 7 people were arrested. new york city mayor bill deblasio meeting behind closed doors in an effort to repair his relationship with law enforcement. officers publically turned their backs on the mayor who continues to defend anti police protests following the execution style killings of two police officers. union reps say the two-hour meeting ended with no solution. >> there are a number of discussions about the safety issues that our members face. there was no resolve. our thought here today is that actions speak louder than words and time will tell. >> some new york city lawmakers telling a local news sight they were urged to buy deblasio's public aids to publically blast the pba president lynch and others who spoke out against the

mayor. deblasio's press secretary denied the claims. >> a massive recovery operation. crews recovering bodies and debris from indonesia to singapore sunday. we are live withfrom thailand with the latest. what are you learning today? >> strong winds and heavy rain are hampering the recovery operation at the poem moan meant -- moment. divers can't go diving to look for bodies and debris. the first two bodies arriving at the air base for the honor guard. sonar images they viewed could show the upside down fuselage of the plane at the bought testimony of the sea. it is not clear if the plane is broken up or in one piece. the waters are relatively shallow. divers are likely to be able to search the floor.

the uss sampson has been using sonar devices on board to help pinpoint the remains of the lost plane. the first recovered was found in the sea about 10 miles from the airasia indonesia. about halfway into its flight from surabaya to singapore. the pilot radioed in he was facing bad weather. airasia never lost a plane before. >> it was an experience i never dement happening and a airline's worst nightmare. >> david piper reporting.

it will be a different scene a couple hours from now. billions of people all around the world they are ready to ring in the new year including more than 1 million right here in new york city. >> how much bundling to we need to do? maria molina is already warming it up for us there. >> good morning. i have thermals on a hat on and chevroleters on and i am still very chilly out here. you really have to bundle up. the longer you are exposed to the full conditions you start to feel the cold temperatures. they are bone chilling. behind me is the new year's eve new york city ball. it is very impressive. very large. it is 6 tons in weight and also 12 feet in diameter. it was tested yesterday at noon.

at 11:59 eastern time tonight it will be making its way down the pole to ring in 2015. the first ball drop was in 1907. this one behind me is a 7th generation ball. we have seen a number of them through out many, many years. it does have over 2600 dry angles in the ball here i am not sure if you can really see on hold. but these are unique waterford crystals they are all around the ball. this is going to be helping ring in the new year at 2015 coming up later tonight. it does have 3200 led lights in red, blue, green and also in white. the weather conditions that is a big concern. we have very told arctic air in place across parts of the rockies and also into the plains. we are talking actual temperatures well below zero. you factor in the wind the windchill temperatures are even colder than that. as far as the conditions here in

tourist locations protesting the deaths of mike brown and eric garner. protestors say demonstrators will not get near the ball drop unless they get there early. once the area is at full capacity no one else will be allowed inside. >> activists planning to crash boston's historic first night celebrations urged no the to traumatize the hundreds of small children who will be in attendance at the annual family friendly event. demonstrators say they will have parade floats where they will stage a die in with eric garner around michael brown. >> the little kids want to know why thr people lying around dead and we want to know why there are innocent black-year-olds dead. >> there are 2, 3, 4-year-olds there i don't think they should have to see behavior they have nothing to po do with. >> city officials hoping to counter the protest by asking attendees to wear something blue to show support for police officers.

home it is free pay all of the way. prepay local income and property taxes by paying it a day earlier than the first day of 2015 you are going to get a tax benefit a full year earlier. deduction double up means double up on certain itemized deductions or charities that you get a deduction for them and you get a standard deduction for the following year. that helps you. apply for your business if you have one. small businesses should buy equipment before the end of the year. you are not going to be able to make any big purchases. it is time to get deductions right away computers printers, corporate cars all that good stuff. finally you want to set up your pension plans before year's end. there's no need to fund them until september of 2015. this plan, if a plan is in existence before the end of the year. there's no need to put money into it until september 15th. leah a lot of people are thinking taxes right now then we will think about new year's eve oochlt sounds like that's the spart way to do it, cheryl.

welcome back to "fox & friends first." a convicted killer in custody after a terrifying, intense six-hour standoff with police. the armed suspect who was wanted for breaking parole barricaded himself inside an apartment along with two women and several children. at one point he called the fox affiliate in minneapolis and talked with the station for 76 minutes. in the middle of the conversation you can hear gunshots and screaming. >> i have absolutely nothing to lose and apparently helmets think they are invincible from a face shot. >> police used tear gas and concussion grenades before the suspect will be taken
